Renting is strongest in three cases: a seasonal one-off clean, moving into a home with large glazing, and trying the technology before buying.
Do not count only the time the robot spends moving across the glass. The benefit drops when there are few windows, they are small, the panes are narrow, the frames are deep, or a solid anchor point is hard to reach.

How to compare the rental and purchase price

Seven specifications worth comparing
The largest suction figure means nothing on its own. The result comes from preparation, how damp the pad is, how clean the sensors are and what kind of dirt you are removing.
- Edge and obstacle detection — critical on frameless glass and windows with handles.
- The safety system — a separate rope, a reliable carabiner, a power-failure battery, audible warnings.
- Cable and extension length — the cable must not pull the robot or hang dangerously.
- Cleaning path — a systematic route misses less, but you will still finish the corners by hand.
- Fluid delivery — convenient, but the permitted fluid and not over-wetting matter.
- Number of pads — you need enough clean pads suited to the specific model for the whole area.
- Controls and error signals — you have to be able to stop and recover the robot safely.
One more specification you will not find on the box: noise. These devices run a powerful fan and are noticeably loud. In a flat with thin walls, in the evening, or with a child asleep, that is a real constraint. Plan the cleaning for daytime.
If the model has a safety rope, it is not a decorative accessory
Before switching on, attach the rope to a solid, immovable indoor element — exactly as the manual specifies.
A light chair, a loose radiator fitting, a window handle or an adhesive hook is not a reliable anchor.
Lock the carabiner. Leave enough rope for movement, but not so much that a falling device gathers speed or reaches a person.
The area below must be clear of people, animals and fragile items. If there are children in the home, physically restrict access for the whole cycle — not just at start-up.
Do not leave the robot unattended. Do not use it in rain, snow or strong wind. Stay within the manufacturer's temperature, humidity and glass-thickness range even when the robot does physically hold.

Who is liable if the robot falls
Everyone wonders about this, and it is rarely discussed.
A rented item stays the owner's property, and liability for damage follows the contract, the actual circumstances and causation. If the robot is damaged while being used clearly outside its instructions — for instance without the required safety rope attached, or on a prohibited surface — the renter may have to make good the damage.
So before you pay, settle three things and agree them in writing:
- The size of the deposit and the conditions under which it is not returned.
- Whether the device is insured and what exactly the cover includes, if any.
- How damage is valued — a repair estimate, residual value or the full price of the device.
One more practical step: photograph the attached rope and carabiner before the first run. That shot can help if the circumstances of use have to be reconstructed later.

The cleaning sequence
Before starting. Wipe loose grit from the starting area with a dry soft cloth, and clean the sensors. A dirty pad smears the whole window and drags abrasive particles across it.
Wetting. Only as specified. Too wet reduces adhesion; the wrong fluid damages the system.
The first cycle. Place the robot at the specified distance from the edge. Watch the first pane for a full cycle — that is how you judge adhesion and the path.
Taking it off. Grip the handle firmly, stop the fan as the manual specifies, and only then lift it off the glass. Unclip the safety rope last.
If the robot slips, vibrates unusually or shows an error, stop it as the manual specifies and remove it safely. Do not add fluid in the hope of a better result: check the pad, the sensors, the surface and the wetting the manufacturer specifies.

Before the first run: map your windows
This step saves the most time.
Sketch a simple plan of the windows. Number the panes and note the width, height, frame type and whether a solid anchor point can be reached without climbing.
Mark frameless edges, roof windows, films, cracks and narrow strips separately. Send the unusual cases to the owner before booking.
Any surface the manual does not clearly permit comes off the plan.
Start with the cleanest suitable glass and work towards the dirtier ones, so abrasive particles are not carried through the home. Keep clean, used and wet pads apart.

At return. Empty the tank if the manual requires it. Wash the pads by the permitted method, and wipe the sensors and tracks dry. Do not coil cables too tightly.
And do not stay quiet about an error. Reporting a stoppage or weaker adhesion lets the owner check the equipment before the next rental.

Does the robot clean the corners of a window?
Usually not completely. The shape of the housing decides how close to the corner it reaches, so plan a short manual finish.
How long does it actually take?
It depends on the model, the number of panes and their size. Count not only the automatic cycle but the preparation, pad changes, moving between panes, and finishing corners and frames by hand.
Can it be used on frameless glass?
Only if that specific model is intended for it and the manual sets out edge detection and a safe starting distance. That another robot in the same category can is not enough.
What happens in a power cut?
